Huberto SaintHubert, Treasurer

Objectives:

  • Train young farmers.
  • Promote sustainable development.
  • Promote the production of goods for the international market
  • Support local farmers in order to maintain a high quality and high volume of goods for the international market.
  • Research overseas market for the goods produced in the south of Haiti
Challenges:
Due to the political instability that has hit Haiti for the past 20 years, the farmers of Les Cayes lost an international market of 24.000 lbs of hot pepper per week for an amount of 20,000 $US. The peasants who have no other alternative threaten to eradicate the forest reserves from the Macaya Park considered as a world inheritance. Each day more than ten trucks loaded with high tonnage woods (from cut trees) head towards the city of LesCayes to feed the factories, laundries, and bakeries. The number of charcoal producers has grown extensively by a factor ten. More than five water sources and rivers of the plain of LesCayes are dried up during the dry seasons for a short duration.

Actions undertaken by the members of CAPAS:

  • Organization of seminars and training to the profit of the organized farmers;
  • Set up of a school of formation of "Agents of Sustainable development"
  • Renovate ten training sites and agricultural production throughout the south of Haiti.
