Bèl Jaden is a collective project run by Haïtian peasants working in agriculture. It's a program open to all interested living abroad to invest in Haïti or invest with Haïtian farmers.

Reforestation can not be done without action, neither it cannot be accomplished through charitable work. Because of this, if we are to protect our environment and allow both Haïtian farmers and yourselves to generate some revenue, we invite you to join this wonderful opportunity. Bèl Jaden will partner you with a knowledgeable team that will plant fruits and vegetables which in turn will be sold yielding profit for everyone. This project is open to everyone: individuals living abroad, organizations, faith-based organizations.

The Bèl Jaden project will use all forms of technology such as digital cameras, the internet, video technology in order to create a collaboration with Haïtians that cultivate and plant the land, agronomists with Haïtians living all over the world to ensure that this economic endeavor is based on respect and knowledge of everyone involved and that it will be resource for all.

" "How about a garden as an engagement or a wedding gift....a XMAS gift...." "A garden in the name of an organization, a Haïtian Hero, a church, a school ect.." Now, think of reforestation. You start building those gardens soon, one part of the counrty will be filled with fruit trees.....

Prepare....
Planters work alongside agronomists and technicians to prepare tree nurseries, grafting and manure for fruits such as cherries, oranges, mangos, coconuts.

Plant....
Planters have the land available to plant coconuts, mangos, avocado as well as planting manioc, peppers, squash along with all sorts of legumes.

Produce....
The fruits and vegetables that are to be sold at the local, downtown, and even international markets. Yielding profit for the farmers, the investors and the entire community.
Who is behind the Bèl Jaden project...

This project is a collaboration between Organizations in Haïti and abroad,which are;
CAPAS: Centre d'Appui à la Production Agricole du Sud
EDEM: Éducation et Dévelopment des Enfants d'Haïti
GREAT S.A.: Groupe d'Exportation/Importation et de l'Avancement du Tourisme en Haïti

Each Organization plays an important role to assure communication between the investors, meaning the farmers and the individuals performing this investment.

CAPAS is an organization based in the south of Haïti that brings a solid background and experience in working with community groups, quality assurance, exporting these products abroad. This organization is run by the agronomist Issac Cherestal who has more than 20 years experience in this capacity.

    CAPAS' role:
  • CAPAS is responsible for preparing field technicians who will work with farmers and who will ensure the success of the project on site.
  • CAPAS will be in charge of marketing along with selling the products to ensure a sizable profit for all investors.

EDEM is an organization established in Boston, Ma whose mission is to create development programs for the youth in Haïti. In terms of the Bèl Jaden project EDEM will promote the project throughout the Haïtian Diaspora.

    EDEM's role:
  • To use all sorts of available technology to put in place a communication system between the investors and the farmers in Haïti.
  • To seek organizations that would be interested in supporting and investing in the project.
  • Put in place all the information that can be available in order for the project to run well.
  • Transfer funds and donations to CAPAS to mange the project.
GREAT S.A. is business established in Les Cayes, Haïti to support the development through exportation and importation and tourism. Great S.A. works with the youth in Les Cayes and in Ile-a-Vache ( please refer www.ile-a-vache.com that Great has created)
    GREAT S.A.'s role:
  • Seek individuals and organizations who wish to invest as private investors in the Bèl Jaden project.
  • Search for a pathway to sell local products harvested at Bèl Jaden in the international market.
  • Perform marketing in order to promote and advance the project in the private sector.
  • Create the website and locate all sorts of resources that will assist farmers, agronomists and investors.

What's been done so far...

Each of these groups is working to put the project in place. It's through this kind of collaboration that we believe that reforestation will advance in Haïti. The collaboration between planters, agriculturists, agronomists and concerned citizen who wish to invest in the country's true resources.

    What we've done:
  • CAPAS has already established a training school that will form young technicians to work the land.
  • CAPAS has researched and has found planters that are ready to offer their land for this invesment opportunity.
  • EDEM foundation has donated $2000 to begin 2 smaller projects (project Bèl Jaden) in the Placid area of Haïti and Ile-a-Vache.
  • EDEM foundation and CAPAS have chosen two young technicians to work in Placid and Ile-a-Vache for the next 3 years in order to begin the project.
  • There are land and farmers already in place to plant Moringa, Cherries, manioc and others.
  • GREAT S.A. is working with grocery stores in the U.S. and have them purchase vegetables from these farmers
  • GREAT S.A. is working to create an investors group abroad who in turn wish to create this kind of project in the future.
  • GREAT S.A. has met with the Ile-a-Vache mayor, discussing the Bèljaden project.

How can I be involved?...

Initially, we would like to remind everyone that this is an investment that we are undertaking, and investments can be risks. No one is guaranteed a profit, however if we all work together through our efforts we'll see results. We recommend that individuals or organizations to contact agronomist Issaac Cherestal in Haïti at 011-509-485-2433 for more information or contact Patrick Lucien at 508-904-7491 in Boston, MA.

    To be involved:
  • Anyone can participate, we will send out a detailed description of the Bèl Jaden project, what we wish to harvest, how many people who will work in this project, what the costs are and what you can expect as long-term profit.
  • We ask that everyone fill out an application, which will contain information to contact you.
  • We will then soon put you in contact with the field technician in charge of the particular area that we choose (Placide or Ile-a-Vache).
  • CAPAS will be responsible for managing all the funding in Haïti, EDEM and GREAT S.A. will manage funds in the U.S.
  • As soon as the connection is established, we will assure you that there will be monthly reports about the project.
  • The technicians will have at their disposal: digital cameras, access to the internet and email addresses to create a solid connection between the planters and investors.
  • If possible we'll videotape the interviews that we hold with the planters and upload them to the website.
  • The more investors, the more planters, the more reforestation we can perform, the more profit everyone can make.

What if I wished to visit?...

We welcome everyone who wishes to visit the location. Agronomist Isaac lives not to far from the airport in les Cayes and he will welcome you with open arms and bring you to meet the staff. Do not forget that GREAT S.A. is promoting Haïtian tourism. As of right now there is something called an agro-tourist, who is a kind of tourist who encourages visiting agricultural sites while learning at the same time.
